The second World Mayors’ Conference on Drugs together with the 16th ECAD Mayors’ Conference, is held in Göteborg on February 5-6, 2009. The Conference will focus on the importance of maintaining restrictive and human drug policies both nationally and internationally. The aim of the Conference is to manifest its full support of the UN conventions ahead of the UN General Assembly Special Session on Drugs (UNGASS) in March 2009.We would like the Conference to be a forum for exchanging experiences and to make it possible for agreement around the manifest.The year 2009 in Göteborg has special focus on activities against drugs.

Previously, Jan Eliasson was President of the 60th session of the United Nations General Assembly 2005-2006. He was Sweden’s Ambassador to the United States, 2000-2005. Mr. Eliasson was Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden in 2006.
